It looks like Precious is almost in heat.  The boys have stalked her for days, the first indication.  Families on her list have been patient and it appears they will soon be rewarded.

Jayme groomed Etta this afternoon, spiffing her up before her March 11th due date.
I like my girls to feel good about themselves as they approach motherhood.  Since the grooming, Etta carries herself like a noblewoman--albeit with a paunch.

Finally Home

Master Santi arrives home in Connecticut.  After a bit of play, he snuggles into his brand new bed with his brand new toys.

Hurray, hurray I am happy today--Jayme's back!  Jayme flew puppies to South Carolina and Louisiana and, let me tell you, the days she was gone did not run as smoothly as when she is here. Tomorrow, she flies another munchkin to Manhattan.  I telephoned Jayme yesterday while she was in the Atlanta airport and gave her a raise.  Log Cabin is not the same without her.  The flowers are for you, Jayme.

Miss Madge visited Dr. Rick DuBois this morning for a booster shot.  This is how Dr. Rick weighs dogsNext, he will weigh himself without Madge and subtract the amount from the original number.  Madge weighed 22 lbs.  And Dr. Rick is still wonderful.   I love living simply in Maine.

There are lots of puppies growing around here.  Marlee's babies now live in the family room allowing them to experience the noise and confusion of real lifeThey watched the Super Bowl with us Sunday night and appeared to root for the Patriots.  They, like us, sulked all day Monday.

The smaller puppies sleep in the nursery/office being gently cared for by their moms. Whimsy, Minnie and Hunny are attentive mothers who keep their babies well fed and the whelping boxes clean.  Last night before bed, I snuggled all the little ones, a habit I can't get enough of.  There is nothing more calming than the warmth of new puppies against your cheek, and the perfume of their skin.  How did I get so blessed.

Marlee's puppies had their first physicals with Dr. Rick this morning.  All did well and passed their physicals easily.  Dr. Rick drew blood from their carotid arteries which will be sent to an outside laboratory for blood panel results.  No one fainted but everyone except Master O'Hara squeeled.  Rick likes to make sure puppies' insides are as good looking as their outsidesThis is in preparation for Friday's desexing surgeries.

Whimsy's and Minnie's puppies are eating and gaining weight.  But at this stage, most of their time is spent snoozing.  Grow puppies grow--there are lots of loving families waiting for you.

Hunny just finished delivering her litter.  She gifted us with three precious miniature females.  Thank you Hunny and Mr. Right

 January 30, 2012

Hunny is in labor two days early.  Minnie delivered her puppies two days early last Friday.  Oh my, looks like I need to return to math class for a "due date" refresher.  Counting on my fingers creates too many errors!

 January 28, 2012

Minnie and pups had a quiet night.  This is a special gift from a first time mom and greatly appreciated.  Take a peek at the close ups of Miss Pink and her six burly brothers.

Minnie and Bandit blessed us with our first parti litter tonight.  There are seven chocolate and white babies that I cannot take my eyes off of.  The seven have excellent markings and heads and will have perfect wavy fleece coats.

Thank you sweet Minnie

Master Red has been adopted and will be a brother to the family's other Log Cabin Labradoodle.  I feel badly for the family that had to return him but pleased that Red, now Harry, will live in a very loving home.

  January 22, 2012

Master Red, a Truffles and Bandit puppy born Nov. 13th, needs a family.  Last weekend he joined his first family but mom had a reaction so Red is now available.  He is a sweet, calm little boy who will make an excellent family pet.

January 21, 2012

We welcomed a serious snowstorm yesterday.  It fell so thick and quickly that we lost visibility outside the windows.  A perfect day to stay cozy.  Minnie Paws spent the day on my lap and I enjoyed feeling the movement of her unborn babies.  Pete photographed our 17 puppies and we emailed them to their expectant families.  Here is a picture of Whimsy's boy Master Black.

All eight puppies have waiting families.

January 14, 2012

Whimsy is in early labor as the household rests in quiet mode.  Etta and Bandit finished breeding two days ago, the other dogs have come in after a serious romp in the snow.  It is almost noon and everyone is asleep.  My eyes too feel heavy.  It is a time to relax before the "birthday party."

Master Buddy

Hi Patty

Happy New Year to you and Pete.  Hope your holidays were wonderful.  I've been meaning to email you for sometime.  We want to thank you so much for bringing Buddy into our lives.  He's an amazingly loving and happy pup!!!  He has really completed our family.

I was on your website today and saw the picture of a very pregnant Whimsy
(Buddy's mom) so I thought I'd share a photo of Buddy with you.  He looks so much like his mom and dad :)

This is he enjoying his first night in a hotel where he was spoiled by the staff over the holidays.  So fun!  Good luck with all your new pups!

Fondly,
Carrie Walsh

Whimsy's puppies
should arrive soon.  We are in the midst of a Winter Nor'easter,  and sometimes storms trigger labor.  As you can see, Whimsy seems ready.

January 7, 2012

It's a busy time here.  Bandit and Etta mated and we expect their puppies to arrive March 11th.  Whimsey is round and solid and looks ready to deliver any day.  Minnie Paws' belly expands and expands.  Truffles' babies go home next weekend and Marlee's little athletes can now see, hear and walk.  Here's a peek at two of their puppies.

Enjoy the snapshots of Marlee's December 19th litter.  All the puppies have forever homes.

December 21, 2011

As the puppies dried off and we had a better look, we noticed a "phantom" pup among Marlee's litter.  This is the first phantom born at Log Cabin Labradoodles.  A phantom puppy is one with a solid base coat color and a defined second color along the edges; i.e., the sides of the face, arms and body.  Marlee's puppy has a chocolate coat with caramel edges.  A phantom coat is considered very rare.  What a nice surprise.  This litter is the first Marlee and Oliver produced together and they have given us pups with gloriously colored coats.

Happy Birthday Puppies
Marlee's 9 Babies

December 18, 2011

We are on puppy watch.  Marlee is due to deliver puppies tomorrow so we are on alert in case today is the day.  The nursery is bleached and shiny.  The whelping box (4'x4') has been set up next to my desk soon to be filled with the chirps of new babies.

Outside it is six degrees so the dogs, Pete and I wait by the fire.  I love snuggling inside on cold December days.  The entire family comes together sharing time and talk.

Plus, I don't mind the cold--I look better in winter clothes than summer clothes.

Hi Patty,
For your  enjoyment.  Sir Parker after a hard day of holiday preparations.  He blends into the brown sofa we have.  This is his preferred position....on someone.  There is a poodle with a long history of lap sitting in the background of these dogs.

Merry Christmas Patty,

Hope all is well with you and Pete and all of your clan. We have had a wonderful year and JW & Jack continue to be the love of my life. People constantly remark on how beautiful they are and how well behaved they are. Of course I always feel that way but then my opinion is very biased. JW is still tiny weighing in at 15 lbs and brother Jack is a hefty 22 lbs. JW takes after his mom and Jack after his daddy. We have a christmas card on the way to you but wanted to share a couple of the other Christmas photos with you. I am so ever greatful that our paths crossed and blessed by being able to have JW and Jack in my life.  Little JW still has a heart shaped pink nose. I just love them to death!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aren't they handsome??????

Love,
Carol, JW & Jack

December 11, 2011

All the dogs play together today as no female is in heat.  We may only have a slight window for this as two females should go into season any day now. Because the males live in our home alongside our females, the most difficult time we encounter is when females are in heat.   We place males and females in different parts of the house, but that doesn't stop the males from howling.  We live on 30 acres, yet a neighbor once approached me while I was out walking dogs and said, "Did you hear all those coyotes howling last night?"

So while we have this pleasant window, the males and females romp outside today like playful pals.

Everyone is happier today welcoming Oliver back into the family--Log Cabin's Prodigal PuppyOliver has a new tilt to his head, smugly suggesting he has experienced a bigger world beyond.

We all slept sounder last night.

Praise God.  Oliver was found.  He is cold and muddy but appears to have spent the night in the safety of  a barn.  Praise God, Oliver is home!  Thank you for your prayers.

8:30 AM

We need your prayersOliver was groomed yesterday and the groomer kindly offered to drive him home when she was done.  As the groomer was walking Oliver to the car he slipped his collar and ran away.  Because it had been a busy day, the groomer did not finish up until 9:30PM.  Thus, we had to look for him in the dark and it was raining.  Now it is morning and Oliver is still missing.

Pete is posting flyers and continuing the search.  Jaymie and others are helping him while I wait by the phone hoping someone will call with good news.  And I am praying.

Truffles' babies can see and hear!  The eight are remarkably calm, earning the name "ragdolls."  They melt into the palm of your hand when you pick them up. So easy to love.

Griffin

Tonight one of Katie's 3 month old puppies, Stella, will fly to Minnesota to be trained as a therapy dog for Can Do Canines.  An employee of US Air is flying to Bangor to transport the pup to Minnesota.  US Air provides this service without cost.

Stella will wear a red vest during the flight, like the vest on the above pup, Griffin, one of our past Can Do Canine graduates.  Time to start the journey...

Puppies Due Jan 14th

Minnie Paws and Bandit bred this morning hopefully creating our first parti litter.  God willing, puppies will be born January 29th.  Minnie and Bandit are truly enamored with one another---one might say it's "puppy love."  Minnie flirts and teases while Bandit pursues her through the house.  Once in a while a pair exhibits strong feelings for each other such as this.

Cannot wait to welcome their chocolate and white parti puppies.

Awoke to a crystal blue morning where sunlight danced across acres of frost.   Animal footprints smudged the surface revealing trails of many night visitors.  Good morning Maine.

Truffles jumped on my lap first thing this morning.  She is  remarkably cuddly when pregnant.  I love how she nuzzles close to my face as if to say, I love you deeper than the ocean higher than the sky.  Truffles' belly protrudes round and firm showing she will soon deliver many puppies to love.  Sometimes I swear she is smiling.

November 1, 2011

Finally! After eight weeks of being unable to access my website, the problem is solved.  During these weeks it has felt like being underwater and unable to breathe.  The torture demanded trust.  Once a week I was good at it.

The best news is that we have available spots for families wanting puppies.  Truffles is due to deliver November 11th and there will be medium, chocolate, fleece coated pups available.  Marlee and Oliver were bred and we anticipate chocolate and cream large miniatures/small mediums with fleece coats being born December 19th.

I am off to prepare packets for the ten puppies going to their families this weekend.  Placing pups in new parents' arms is like delivering a package on Christmas. The joy of it all.

And speaking of joy, have I told you how happy I am to be back!
